REFERRALS

Following are comments from tenants of Metropolitan Properties:
  • I’ve really enjoyed living in the Arlington this past year. The building is very well run and you have certainly been the best landlord I have ever had. If I should return to Des Moines in the future, I’ll be sure to inquire about your properties first.
    Allan, resident of Arlington Apartments

  • I’ve been a tenant at the Ayrshire for Metropolitan Properties for many years (8 ½) and have been very well satisfied. They show a sense of community and caring. When you call for something to be fixed, replaced or just looked at…IT’S DONE. Something that has become rare in rental companies. They also work with neighborhood associations to insure security and safety in their buildings.
    Rick, resident of Ayrshire Apartments

  • I moved back to Des Moines after being gone for 5 years. When I saw how much the downtown had changed and seeing the Arlington & Hallett buildings I knew that is where I wanted to live. It is close to everything and knowing that the buildings were saved from demolition and are locally owned and managed means a lot to me. I have loved living here ever since.

  • Living at the Arlington & Hallett is more of a community than just another place to live. Knowing the history of these buildings and how they were saved as well, the fact they are locally owned and managed is important to me. I have lived in the suburbs and in downtown areas before but nothing have had the character and sense of community like living here has. I love my place, it is unique and has a lot of character, unlike living in a suburb where everything looks the same and the buildings are owned by some corporation hundreds of miles away. I highly recommend it!
    Tim, resident of Hallett Flats

  • In August of 2004, I made the decision to sell my three-bedroom town home and move downtown to the Hallett Flats. I had read newspaper articles about Jodi Beavers’ and Leslie Gearhart’s preservation of the historic Hallett Flats and the Arlington apartments and I knew the English style Hallett Flats would be perfect for me.

  • Since moving in, I have found Jodi and Leslie to be excellent landlords. They are not only receptive and responsive to tenant requests, but they have shown a level of compassion that I do not believe exists within most landlords. On more than one occasion, Jodi and Leslie have sent flowers to tenants when a parent passed away. I fully realize that owning these buildings is a business venture however; Jodi and Leslie have shown with their hearts and actions they genuinely care about their tenants.

  • Diversity is very important to me and I also love that fact that Jodi and Leslie rent apartments to people of all ages and races. It’s just one of the factors that makes living in one of Jodi and Leslie’s properties so enjoyable.
    Dana, resident of Hallett Flats

  • I have had the distinct pleasure of being a tenant of one of Mss Gearhart’s and Beavers’ properties for over five years and have always found them to be fantastic landlords. Both of these delightful women have been completely dedicated to making “downtown living” a safe, immensely enjoyable experience for all who are fortunate enough to live in either of their Locust Street properties (Arlington Apartments and Hallett Flats).

  • I have, on numerous occasions, made suggestions to one or the other of these ladies concerning matters dealing with upkeep or betterment of the properties and have always found them not only receptive to my ideas, but seriously interested in having the input of all of us who reside in these magnificent old buildings. One example of this is the flower gardens that cover the small front courtyard of the Hallett Flats.

  • My girlfriend Dana lives in the Hallett. Early this Spring she and I asked Jodi and Leslie if they would mind if we took on the overall management of the gardens in hopes of making some improvements and as a means of giving vent to our mutual interests in gardening. Our request was approved without hesitation on the part of both owners, and they have supported the project whole-heartedly, to the tune of investing monies in new plantings and ornamental fixtures to improve the overall appearance of the gardens.

  • I also know of at least one instance where a resident of my building was seriously injured when struck by an automobile and completely lost the ability to work (and pay rent) for a matter of several months. Rather than putting this woman out onto the street, Leslie and Jodi allowed this lady to continue to reside in the building rent-free until such time as her physical and legal issues were resolved. I know of no other such occurrence in all of the years that I have been renting apartments!

  • I truly feel that one would have to look very long and very hard to find landlords who are more caring and compassionate in their dealings with their tenants. I consider myself to be truly fortunate to know these ladies and to be their tenant.
    David, resident of Hallett Flats
